Excellent device. I installed the Cocoon Shell front-end and turned it into my dream retro console. Dual-screen games like DS and 3DS games run perfectly, and when playing single-screen games the second screen can be used to multitask, like watching a stream or looking for a guide. It's a bit small for my hands and definitely less comfortable than my Steam Deck, but at least it fits in my pocket. Being able to run some Steam games natively through GameNative is also completely nuts to me. And for more demanding games, I'm using Moonlight streaming and Tailscale to stream from my gaming PC, so I basically have my private cloud gaming setup. I don't think it'll completely replace my Steam Deck, but it's giving me a very solid option for specific use cases.

A masterpiece
This handheld blew me away, play anything from the switch down console wise (even plays steam games natively!). amazing build quality, once you get it setup (which can take even the seasoned emulator enthusiasts a hot minute) it’s an actual dream. There is non better than this

Good device with a few minor (perhaps) issues.
device is generally quite good for what it is however there were some quality concerns for me. Face buttons were inconsistent (Y button louder and more clacky than others), triggers and shoulders are not that good to use but remain functional for the size of the device.
My main concern however was with the main OLED display which very quickly showed image retention. This in itself should not be a problem, retention not being burn in - however i have multiple OLED displays on TV's, laptops, my main desktop uses an LG C1 OLED from the day it came out... i have never came across an OLED display that exhibits retention as quickly as this device. Playing Fatal frame 2: crimson butterfly (ps2) and leaving it on the main menu screen for 10-20 seconds resulted in the games logo being retained on the display long after closing the game. It ultimately resolves itself and within the software they do have Image retention refresher solutions - including a refresher that starts automatically multiple times a day. However i was still concerned with how quickly it retains bright static images (particularly if you play with higher brightness)... this was ultimately what made me decide to return.
Performance of the device was good considering the market segment its aimed at, dual screen devices like this are inherently cool, very fun to use... perhaps more fun to use than other handhelds i have such as a legion go 2. However general setup is more complicated with an android device like this and initial setup was quite long, i also found it more of a headache tweaking in game settings such as quality and resolution in many emulators where on x86 devices it seems to be more straight forward.
Its a really nice handheld, however the small issues i described should be considered.

QHow do I know if it’s a base or a lite, because I’d like to get a base with 128 GB and 8GB ram, but I don’t think it specifies if it’s lite or not, just says the choices off by storage, or is the lite an entirely separate thing whereas I cannot see lite pictures and there is no lite within the “package includes” section, I’m here for the base, just particularly curious on why lite is listed yet it doesn’t seem to be.

STSupport TeamOfficialAnswered 11 hours ago
The 8GB RAM / 128GB storage option on our website is the AYN Thor Base—the model you’re looking for.
We offer these configurations:
- Base: 8GB RAM / 128GB storage
- Pro: 12GB RAM / 256GB storage
- MAX: 16GB RAM / 1TB storage
We don’t currently offer the Lite, despite it being mentioned in the product title. The “Package Includes” section lists the box contents rather than the model options. Sorry for the confusion!

QWould I get less games if I ordered the 128gb vs the 256gb? What does the additional spaces add or take away?
A
STSupport TeamOfficialAnswered 1 month ago
Both models ship with the exact same program defaults with the OS; we do not pre-install games on either version. Choosing 256GB simply gives you twice as much room for your own games and applications compared to 128GB.

QI noticed that the price went from $392 back to $434 for a base model, does that mean that more are now in stock or is it just a random price increase?
A
STSupport TeamOfficialAnswered 1 month ago
Hey! A price change on our site doesn't necessarily indicate that an item is back in stock.
Pricing updates and inventory status are managed independently. To check if an item is available, please look for the stock status note directly on the product page (such as "In Stock" or "Back-Order").
If you'd like us to double-check the current inventory for you, feel free to contact us at [email protected].
